Minor had a gut feeling about the Florida Gators

Gainesville was full of top-notch prospects this past weekend working out in the Swamp or roaming the sidelines watching.

There were so many big name prospects on campus that offensive lineman Marcus Minor (6-4, 287, Hyattsville, MD. DeMatha Catholic) snuck in under the radar but had a good trip.

“It was a nice visit, I had fun,” Minor said. “I loved the academic portion because I plan on going into broadcast journalism. I talked to a professor and I enjoyed it.”

Offensive tackles are such a high need in the class of 2017 that Minor was given the red carpet treatment including three sit down meetings with different coaches.

“I got to bond with the football coaches after the tour,” he said. “I spoke with [Torrian] Gray, [Mike] Summers and [Jim] McElwain. I watched the football camp with them too.”

The sit down meeting with offensive line coach Mike Summers went well, according to Minor, and a direct message was laid out to him.

“He [Summers] was basically showing me their depth chart,” Minor said. “He said they’re losing a lot off their offensive line next year, so 2017 will be a huge year coming up for my class. He said I’m a priority for him this year.”

Head coach Jim McElwain explained to Minor that choosing Florida isn’t only a football decision but a business decision to.

“He [McElwain] was talking to me about off the field things,” he said. “He was just explaining the benefits of being a Gator. He said the education and the connections after football is good.”

There was common message between the two coaches towards Minor and that was getting on the field as a freshman.

“They were both telling me about early playing time,” Minor said. “They said they played freshmen before so I believe that was a hint.”

Minor admits that he had a feeling the visit was going to be good and he says he plans to learn more about the Gators head man.

“I liked everything and he’s [Mac] a responsible guy that I plan on learning more about,” he said. “I’m just taking everything in now, my gut felt good about the school.”

Next up for the offensive lineman is his senior season, but he says he will be back in Gainesville for another visit.

“I plan to come back,” Minor said of another visit to Florida. “I’m not taking any more visits this summer because I’m focusing on my senior season.”

The offensive lineman named a top seven that consisted of Florida, Auburn, Maryland, Miami, Michigan State, Virginia Tech and Rutgers, but he says he doesn’t know when a decision will come.

“Whenever I’m 100 percent sure,” he said on when he’ll decide.

INSIDERS TAKE: Florida had a great visit with Minor but the key is getting him back on campus because of this being his first visit. The Gators have something the other schools don’t have and that’s early playing time.
