McPherson glad to see everyone in-person with the Florida Gators

Six official visitors were on campus for the Florida Gators this weekend as the staff continued to host prospect after prospect this month.

Kicker Alex McPherson (5-10, 155, Fort Payne, AL. High) was on campus for the first time as a true prospect this weekend instead of just seeing his brother Evan play for the Gators.

“It was a lot of fun getting to see all the coaches and the staff again in person since COVID started,” McPherson said on his visit to Florida this weekend. “It was great getting to see the guys again and reinitiating the relationship we had before just in person.”

McPherson has had multiple zoom calls with the coaching staff but seeing them in person is different and the kicker liked the in-person interaction.

“It’s different because you can build a genuine relationship instead of being on a computer screen just talking,” he said on getting to see the coaches in person instead of on Zoom. “It’s genuine now, it’s just a breath of fresh air getting to see people in person and getting to build a relationship in person.”

Analyst Shayne Graham spent all weekend with McPherson and the relationship is continuing to grow between the two.

“Getting to know him even more this weekend since I met him in person, I mean I’ve met before but getting to meet him for the weekend,” McPherson said on his relationship with Shayne Graham. “It was great to build the relationship with him.”

The Gators’ coaching staff made sure not to push Florida on McPherson but make sure that he made the right decision for himself.

“For them, it’s just about where I feel at home at,” he said on the message from the coaching staff. “They aren’t pushing me or pressuring me to come here, it’s just about where I feel at home at and if that’s here then it’s here. They’re big on what’s best for me.”

Graham and the rest of the Gators’ staff had a message for McPherson about how he would fit into the program and how quickly he could get on the feel.

“They said not that I would come in start, but I would come in and compete for a spot,” McPherson said on what the coaches tell him about the kicking situation. “The plan is to come in and compete for the starting job and that I can definitely compete for the starting job and they wouldn’t hold me back.”

McPherson has taken official visits to Auburn, Florida and Texas A&M already and he says each school has something different to like.

“Everything is special in a different way, all of the schools that I’ve taken officials to are great,” he said of his interest in Florida. “There’s nothing really separating each other, getting to meet everyone in person, everyone is going to have good first impressions. Everybody is the same.”

Next up for McPherson will be an official visit to Georgia and then he hopes to make a decision sometime next month.

“Early July, no dates right now,” McPherson said on when he will commit.
