McGaughey honored to be offered by the Florida Gators

Last week, new Florida Gators tight ends coach Tim Brewster sent out his first offers including a few to out of state prospects.

2022 tight end Trent McGaughey (6-3, 224, Pearland, TX. Shadow Creek) was one of those guys offered by Brewster and he has a relationship with the tight ends coach.

“Coach [Tim] Brewster offered me the scholarship,” McGaughey said of which coach from Florida offered him. “We started our relationship last year when I was a freshman when he was at North Carolina. Right before he left for the Florida job, he offered me at North Carolina.”

McGaughey grew up watching the Gators and wanted an offer from the Gators and he hasn’t stop smiling since picking up the offer.

“I was very excited and I’m still excited right now,” he said on what the offer means to him. “I’ve been a huge Florida fan since the Chris Rainey days. I’ve always loved Florida and it’s a honor.”

When Brewster offered McGaughey last week, he explained to the tight end how he would fit into Florida’s offense if he comes to Gainesville.

“Coach Brewster said I was a baller and he really likes my route running and likes the way I finish blocks and how I have really soft hands,” McGaughey said on what Brewster likes about him. “He also said I can really run for a big guy like me and after he offered me, he started to talk about Kyle Pitts and he was saying how I can be like him in their offense. Kyle is a great player and I feel like I can what he’s doing right now at Florida.”

McGaughey is excited to meet Brewster in person but he does know the coach’s background and what he has accomplished in his career.

“I haven’t met Coach Brewster face to face but he seems like a great person and I already know he’s a great coach,” he said on what he knows about Brewster. “I know his background and I know he’s coached players like Antonio Gates and other great tight ends. Me also knowing his background helps us a lot too.”

The 2022 tight end has also done his homework on the Gators and he knows the history Florida has with tight ends.

“I love the program itself, they’ve produced tight ends like Trey Burton and even the late great Aaron Hernandez so I know they have a history of putting out good tight ends,” McGaughey said on what he likes about Florida. “Florida has been good for a while and they’re close to being in that top four to compete for the national championship.”

Next up for McGaughey will be a trip to Gainesville and he comes into the visit very interested in the Gators.

“My interest level has always been high for Florida and now especially since Coach Brew is there now,” he said on his interest in Florida. “I definitely plan on visiting and it will probably be in the spring or in the summer. Either way I know for a fact I’m coming to Florida for a visit.”
