McCray likes the culture being built by the Florida Gators

This weekend the Florida Gators welcomed several instate visitors into town for official visits including one of their top defensive line targets.

Defensive end LJ McCray (6-6, 260, Daytona Beach, FL. Mainland) was on campus and liked being around the current team during his two days on campus.

“It was definitely a very cool experience, I liked it a lot and we learned a lot,” McCray said of his visit to Florida. “The biggest thing I took away was spending time with the players, I was basically a college student for two days. It was a really cool experience and got more information on the coaches too.”

While on his visit, McCray was hosted by a current player who plays his position, and they had conversations about what to expect at Florida.

“[Justus] Boone,” he said on who his player host was. “He’s definitely a cool guy, like big bro like. He took me under his wing. A lot of stuff we had conversations about, came up and it was a real genuine conversation.”

This weekend was also about learning more about how the Gators want to use McCray and he got a good idea of watching film with the staff.

“That was super important as well, I really got to see how they want to use me,” he said on where the coaches want him. “I will definitely be coached by Coach [Sean] Spencer and Coach [Mike] Peterson as a hybrid guy because I can play inside and outside. They want me at the F, the F is like a more versatile end. Boone is more of a F. I like the versatility and how I can move around.”

It wasn’t just one coach speaking with McCray this weekend, he had multiple coaches including the head coach recruiting him.

“It was definitely super unique,” McCray said on having multiple coaches breaking down his position for him. “It was three for sure, Coach Armstrong is involved too all weekend and Coach Napier. Coach Armstrong is on me for sure. I definitely enjoyed being here. I felt like a priority all weekend for sure.”

McCray enjoyed his time in Gainesville and says the Gators sat the bar high for him as he likes several things about Florida.

“It’s definitely the culture that they’re building, the coaching staff and the people around here,” he said on what stands out to him about Florida. “Being my first official visit, based off the weekend I have, it’s definitely going to be a sight to see, and everyone is going to have to beat out this weekend.”
