McCoy has the Florida Gators on top following his offer from UF

The Florida Gators hosted several prospects on campus this past Saturday for the Vanderbilt game and they also offered one of those prospects in attendance.

Offensive lineman Matthew McCoy (6-6, 285, St. Augustine, FL. Creekside) picked up an offer before the game on Saturday after he talked to the head coach himself.

“Coach [Dan] Mullen did,” McCoy said on the coach from Florida offered him. “He was talking about my athleticism and being able to bend and not being stiff. He was saying that he likes how long I am and that they love player development. They feel like I’m new to the position so they would love to develop me.”

McCoy has picked up a few offers as of late as his senior tape has impressed a lot of coaches and he admits Saturday’s offer was a big one to him.

“It means a lot, it’s probably my top school if not top two,” he said on what the offer means to him. “I feel like it’s my most meaningful offer to me knowing that all of my friends are Gator fans. I liked Florida growing up, it meant a lot to me.”

Offensive line coach John Hevesy explained to McCoy where he would play at on the offensive line if he picks Florida for college.

“He has pretty much said the same thing that Coach Mullen has because they’ve been talking about me,” McCoy said on the message from Hevesy. “Just like how they’re going to develop me and that they’re going to really stress to me and my family to be a Gator. He wants me as a true offensive tackle going against the edge rushers.”

McCoy also enjoyed the Gators’ offense on Saturday and the atmosphere inside the Swamp for homecoming against Vanderbilt.

“The atmosphere was crazy, I loved it, it was homecoming,” he said on his visit to Florida on Saturday. “The offense is getting better; it was a blowout, and it was great to see it in person. The offensive line played amazing.”

Following the visit, McCoy says the Gators are in good shape for his signature as heads into official visits.

“I would say they’re on top,” McCoy said of where Florida stands for him. “Ole Miss and Maryland are recruiting me hard too. I’m going to Ole Miss next week for an official visit, I’m going to take one to Florida on December 10th.”
