McClain has the Florida Gators on top in his recruitment

While the top 2022 recruiting targets took the headline last Saturday, several top 2023 targets visited the Florida Gators to watch them take on Alabama.

2023 defensive back Cormani McClain (6-1, 165, Lakeland, FL. Lake Gibson) was on campus and enjoyed the atmosphere in the Swamp.

“It was great, great experience at the game,” McClain said of his visit to Florida. “The atmosphere was loud, that was the most people I’ve seen in a stadium before. I couldn’t hear nothing.”

McClain enjoyed watching the Gators defense and the defensive backs as he models his game after a Florida starting cornerback.

“The defense played great, great defensive backs,” he said of the defense against Bama. “#5 [Kaiir Elam] locked down, I look up to him and perform my game after him. They bounced back.”

Defensive backs coach Jules Montinar is the main contact for McClain, and he has a simple message for the 2023 prospect.

“Coach Jules mainly,” McClain said on the coach he talks to the most from Florida. “His message is in coming starting as a freshman with great technique and getting me as a better defensive back.”

After the visit McClain says the Gators are at the top in his recruitment for a few reasons including distance from home.

“Yeah, for sure,” he said on if Florida is his top school. “Florida is like home to me, great environment, great skill players. I think they’re a great fit for me.

McClain plans to make a decision in his recruitment following his junior year and he says several schools are recruiting him hard.

“After the season,” McClain said on when he wants to decide and who’s recruiting him hard. “Alabama, Ohio State, Miami, Florida, Florida State, Michigan, and Arkansas.”

INSIDERS TAKE: McClain says he plans to return to Gainesville this weekend for the Tennessee game.
