Matthews still has two tied at the top in his recruitment

Billy Napier loves to build his offense around tight ends and he likes to get them involved in the offense as much as possible and this weekend he hosted two priorities at the position.

Tight end Walter Matthews (6-7, 245, Hiram, GA. High) was on campus and was able to develop an even better relationship with the staff.

“I enjoyed meeting the coaches and learning the culture,” Matthews said of his visit to Florida last weekend. “I liked talking with them and getting closer to them. Just being able to see the whole picture, the whole campus and everything Florida has to offer.”

Matthews has become very close with tight ends coach Russ Callaway as he believes they’re very similar people.

“His personality, his character, he’s both funny and serious,” he said on what he likes about Russ Callaway. “I think he’s the right fit for me, he understands schemes and we have a simple mindset.”

Last weekend, Matthews visited USC and he said the visits were both great visits and similar with each other.

“They’re both super similar,” he said on comparing the Florida visit to the USC visit. “I had very similar times. Both are just really similar, I got to meet a lot of new people and build a tie with them, with the coaches.”

After visiting both Florida and USC, Matthews says both schools are still tied at the top as they were heading into visits.

“I’m still very undecided between those two,” Matthews said. “I don’t know right now, after these visits, they’re so equal.”

Matthews wants to make a summer decision and he says a few things stick out to him about the Gators including one assistant coach.

“Location and definitely the staff,” he said on what he likes about Florida. “The staff and location. I have the best relationship with Coach Callaway, we have a similar personality.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Matthews says he may not visit South Carolina in two weeks as he says his recruitment may be done by then.
