Markway has the Florida Gators high on his leaderboard

Last Friday night, the Florida Gators coaching staff hosted multiple top targets on campus in not just the 2022 class but the 2023 class as well.

2023 tight end Mac Markway (6-4, 250, St. Louis, MO. DeSmet) was one of those guys on campus and enjoyed his time in Gainesville.

“It was awesome,” Markway said of his visit to Florida on Friday. “I loved everything, spent a lot of time with Coach Brew [Tim Brewster] and Coach [Dan] Mullen. I got tours but then got to just hang with Coach Brew. It was a great family atmosphere.”

This was the first time for Markway to meet the coaching staff and the first impressions from the staff was a good for the tight end.

“The coaches were great,” he said on his first impressions of the staff. “Coach Brew loves coaching tight ends, Coach Mullen loves tight ends too. They talked to me about how they would use me in their offense.”

Tight end’s coach Tim Brewster explained to Markway during the visit just how the Gators would use his talents on offense if he picked Florida.

“He said that I could be a guy that could do everything for them, I can be a mismatch on the line and in routes,” Markway said on the message from Brewster. “He would move me around like h-back, in-line and flexed. I take a lot of pride in being an all-around tight end and he explained how he could prepare me for the draft.”

Head coach Dan Mullen also explained to Markway during the visit how the Gators can help him with life after football.

“He talked about the family atmosphere and how he cares about his players,” he said on the message from Mullen. “He talked about football, but also talked about how he helps network his guys in the job world.”

After the visit, Markway says his interest in Florida is high because of Brewster and Mullen but the tight end is in the process of narrowing things down.

“Very, very high,” Markway said on his interest in Florida. “I do have leaders and Florida is definitely one. I need to sit down with my family to narrow it down for sure. Florida is one of them, but I don’t have a true #1 leader.”
