Mac Markway commits to the Florida Gators over Notre Dame

The Florida Gators picked up their first commitment of the 2023 recruiting class on Tuesday afternoon when they picked up an out of state target.

2023 tight end Mac Markway (6-4, 250, St. Louis, MO. DeSmet) committed to Florida over Notre Dame and many others on Tuesday.

Markway visited Gainesville for the first time in June and during that trip he met with tight ends coach Tim Brewster for the first time and the assistant coach explained how the Gators could help his game.

“He said that I could be a guy that could do everything for them, I can be a mismatch on the line and in routes,” Markway said on the message from Brewster. “He would move me around like h-back, in-line and flexed. I take a lot of pride in being an all-around tight end and he explained how he could prepare me for the draft.”

Head coach Dan Mullen also made a big impression on Markway during the visit with his focus on things off the field.

“He talked about the family atmosphere and how he cares about his players,” he said on the message from Mullen. “He talked about football, but also talked about how he helps network his guys in the job world.”

Markway is considered one of the top tight ends in the country for the 2023 class and is a big pickup for the Gators as the coaching staff looks to add weapons at that position after losing Kyle Pitts.

The Gators have a commitment from CJ Hawkins in the 2022 class at the tight end position and it looks like the coaching staff could now decide to take just Hawkins in the 2022 class since they have a commitment from Hawkins now.
