Lyons recaps his virtual visit with the Florida Gators

The Florida Gators coaching staff has been conducting virtual visits on a nightly visit for many members of the 2022 class.

2022 defensive tackle Jamari Lyons (6-4, 295, Melbourne, FL. Viera) is one of those guys who took a virtual visit with Florida.

“The visit went great,” Lyons said of his virtual visit with Florida last week. “We were just sitting there watching videos, the coaches were presenting themselves and every video they talked about strength and conditioning, the new facilities, nutrition, and academics.”

Several members of the Gators coaching staff were on the meeting last week and it was the first time for Dan Mullen to meet Lyons mom.

“Dan Mullen, Coach [David] Cooper, Coach [David] Turner, Coach Greg Knox, Coach [Nick] Savage, and the nutrition lady,” he said on who all was on the call with him. “Coach Mullen introduced himself to my mom and to me again and talked about the new facilities being built and introduced everyone.”

Defensive line coach David Turner explained to Lyons where he would play at on the line, plus gave him some tips to improve his game.

“I believe they’re trying to play me at defensive tackle,” Lyons said on where Turner wants him to play. “He has been just coaching me and talking to me about how to get past the offensive linemen with different drills and stuff.”

The relationship between the coaching staff and Lyons has been developing over the last few years to the point where they talk about all sorts of topics.

“Things are good, I love talking to those guys,” he said on his relationship with the coaching staff. “We talk about a whole bunch of things, Coach Turner has been recruiting me since my freshman year so our relationship has been growing ever since then.”

Lyons hasn’t been able to visit Florida in person yet but he says the Gators are school high on his list of schools.

“My interest has always been very high due to the fact that I was born and raised down here in Florida,” Lyons said on his interest in Florida. “I’ve been watching them ever since I was little, I wouldn’t mind playing with Florida, and my interest level is never going to change on Florida. I do rank them highly.”

The Gators have some competition for Lyons signature as one of the Gators’ top rivals just came into the picture recently.

“Georgia, Nebraska, Indiana, NC State, and South Carolina are recruiting me heavily,” he said. “Miami has been on and off recruiting me, Arizona State just came back into the picture.”
