Linebacker Diwun Black flips from Ole Miss to Florida

Thursday was a good day for the Florida Gators as not only did they receive news that Van Jefferson and Trevon Grimes were eligible for the 2018 season but the Gators picked up commitment number 12.

On Thursday linebacker Diwun Black (6-3, 219, Forest, MS. High) flipped his commitment from Ole Miss to Florida after visiting Florida for Friday Night Lights.

“Once a land shark but now I’m a Gator,” Black tweeted. “Committed to the University of Florida.”

Black who once committed to Mullen at Mississippi State heard from Mullen as soon as he left Starkville for Gainesville.

“When he left to come to Florida he made sure to text me and call me and make sure that he knew I was still wanted,” Black told Gator Country. “We never fell off.”

The Mississippi native who projects as a linebacker by most has been told by the Gators staff that he could actually start out in the secondary.

“They told me that I’m the safety type but that if I get bigger I could move to linebacker,” he said. “I like the position that they’ve talked to me about. It’s like a Rover type. They play the 3-4 so they kind of just told me my role in the defense.”

After Friday Night Lights, Black said that he’s not going to focus on recruiting during his senior year but more on setting up visits and his senior year.

“Once my season starts I’m gonna shut it down and focus on that. I was talking to Coach Mullen about coming and setting up an official visit,” he said after Friday Night Lights. “The LSU game. That’d be the one I wanna get to.”

Black is the fourth linebacker committed in the 2019 class as he joins Jamaal Abrams, Tyron Hopper and Jesiah Pierre. Black is a little different in those players as he’s a longer guy who could even play some in the secondary if needed.
