Lewis feels at home with the Florida Gators’ coaching staff

The Florida Gators coaching staff is looking to improve the tight end room with the 2022 class and this weekend they hosted one of their top targets.

Tight end Danny Lewis (6-4, 235, New Iberia, LA. Westgate) was on campus and enjoyed meeting the current players.

“My trip was very good,” Lewis said of his official visit to Florida. “It’s a pretty cool place and everything was very good. Some of the things that stuck out to me were I got to meet some of the players, they have some good personalities.”

A fellow tight end was Lewis’ host this weekend but the tight end admits that he knows more about the staff than some of the current players.

“[Jonathan] Odom,” he said on who his player host was. “He told me it’s good, we really didn’t talk about it [coaching change] much. I know the coaching staff better than him.”

Tight ends coach William Peagler and the rest of the offensive staff broke down some plays for Lewis during the trip and what they want him to do if he picks Florida.

“They showed me a few route concepts,” Lewis said on the coaches meeting with him. “They want me to block but also catch the ball.”

Peagler has been recruiting Lewis hard the last month plus and the tight end says they have built a good relationship.

“Me and him are very cool,” he said on his relationship with Peagler. “He stopped by me in Louisiana a few times, we created a good bond.”

Lewis is very familiar with several of Florida’s coaches because they were recruiting him to Louisiana the last few years.

“The main I like about the staff is that I know most of them,” Lewis said on what he likes about the coaching staff. “It felt like home because some of them were at UL, Coach Napier was the head coach there. Me and Coach Napier have a good relationship.”

Now that visits are done for Lewis, the tight end says he will decide between three SEC schools on Wednesday.

“I have a top 3, Alabama, Florida, and LSU,” he said on who will he decide between. “It will be on signing day.”
