Lewis breaks down why he committed to the Florida Gators

The Florida Gators picked up their sixth commitment on Tuesday night when they picked up an instate linebacker.

2021 linebacker Terrence Lewis (6-1, 185, Miami, FL. Northwestern) committed to Florida just a few days after he picked up an offer from the Gators.

“I feel like Florida is where I can excel with my abilities and better my education,” Lewis said of why he committed to Florida. “Everyone was happy when I told them and said congratulations it’s good to have you, welcome to the family.”

Just last week, the Gators offered Lewis and it was the Gators area recruiter who offered the linebacker.

“Coach Brian Johnson was the one who offered,” he said on which coach from Florida offered him last week. “He was talking to my coach when he was down here but I heard him saying that he liked my size and my film.”

Lewis has since talked to Johnson and the Gators but it isn’t just Lewis that is talking to Florida, his family is as well.

“Mostly Coach Johnson because he’s the recruiter down here,” Lewis said on the coach he talks to from Florida. “We’re trying to set up a visit to get up there now and meet everyone else. My parents have been talking to him too.”

The 2021 linebacker hasn’t visited Florida yet but he says he already knows what he likes about the Gators.

“I like their linebackers and the coaching staff,” he said on things he likes about Florida. “It isn’t that far from either and it’s somewhere that I want to be at.”

Lewis did watch a lot of Florida this past fall including focusing on one player that he’s familiar with.

“They play fast and physical,” Lewis said of Florida’s defense. “I mainly watched the linebackers and Vosean Joseph because he’s from down here. I like how they play hard and run the 3-4 defense.”

Now that Lewis has committed, the 2021 linebacker wants to get up to Gainesville to see everything for himself and he knows when he will be town.

“February 15th-16th,” he said on when he plans to visit Florida.

INSIDERS TAKE: Lewis is close with Randy Russell and the linebacker says he wears number 21 to honor Russell. Lewis says the way Russell has stayed involved with the Gators is something that he likes about the Gators coaching staff.
