Lee says Florida Gators “means a lot” to him

The Florida Gators have been busy recruiting a lot of underclassmen since the 2019 class is pretty much done for the coaching staff.

On Friday, the Gators offered 2020 defensive tackle Jalen Lee (6-3, 285, Walker, LA. Live Oak) after he talked to one of the Gators support staff members.

“Coach Otis Yelverton offered me,” Lee said of which coach from Florida offered him. “He called me when I was getting out of school and he said that they really liked my film and they like the way I play with my hips, hands and feet.”

Lee now has seven offers but this is his first SEC offer and it’s a big one for the Louisiana native.

“It means a lot, SEC,” he said on what the offer means to him. “Florida is one of the top schools in the SEC. I was shocked that they offered me, I had no idea about it.”

When Lee spoke with Yelverton on Friday, the Gators assistant explained how the Gators see the defensive tackle fitting into Florida’s defense.

“He said I would fit in nicely with them,” Lee said on how Yelverton told him he would fit into the Florida defense. “They want at defensive tackle and they said I could play there early for them.”

The 2020 prospect hasn’t visited Gainesville before but Lee does know a few things about Florida’s football program.

“I know they have a nice school and campus there,” he said on what he knows about Florida. “I like the Jordan jersey’s they have down there and I heard they’re getting a new football facility.”

Now that the Gators have offered Lee, the 2020 defensive tackle says he plans to visit Gainesville soon.

“He wants me to come down there on March 16th their junior day,” Lee said. “I’m most definitely coming and I want to see the bond with the coaches and stuff like that.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Lee says he’s hearing a lot from Alabama and Mississippi State as well as Florida. The defensive tackle says he’s looking for a place to feel like home for him at the next level.
