Lawrence breaks down why he committed to the Florida Gators

The Florida Gators picked up their fourth commitment of the 2023 class on Saturday afternoon from an instate prospect.

2023 receiver Darren Lawrence (6-2, 190, Sanford, FL. Seminole) committed to the Gators over offers from Miami and others as the coaching staff in Gainesville was the difference for him.

“The coaching staff just made me feel like home,” Lawrence said on why he committed to Florida. “They made me feel like I was part of the Swamp family.”

Lawrence has known he wanted to be a Gators since Florida offered him in early June after he camped for the coaching staff.

“As soon as they offered me, but my mom said to wait,” he said on when he knew he wanted to commit to Florida. “I don’t really know why but it’s just something about that Swamp family that made me want to commit. Also, I always grew up wanting to go there.”

Receivers coach Billy Gonzales and head coach Dan Mullen spoke with Lawrence on Saturday and were both excited to add the receiver to the class.

“He [Gonzales] just said I’ll be a great fit with my speed and strong hands,” Lawrence said on the message from Gonzales and Mullen. “Coach Mullen was hyped and said I picked the right school to come too.”

After committing to the Gators on Saturday, Lawrence was on campus to watch the Gators defeat Tennessee and he liked how the offense played during the win.

“It was amazing, it gave me chills,” he said on the atmosphere and the offense on Saturday. “I liked how we moved the ball around and threw the ball.”
