Lagway has “real high” interest in the Florida Gators

The Florida Gators are still looking for a quarterback in the 2023 class but two weeks ago they hosted one of their top guys in the 2024 class.

2024 quarterback DJ Lagway (6-2, 215, Willis, TX. High) was on campus and had the chance to watch practice and go through meetings with the players and coaches.

“It was amazing, I had a great time,” Lagway said of his visit to Florida. “It was a real fun experience. We went into the meeting room with Coach [Billy] Napier and the quarterbacks and they went over the practice plan. After that, we went to practice and then Coach Napier offered me.”

Head coach Billy Napier offered Lagway in person during the visit and explained to him why they wanted to offer him.

“He said he felt like that I was going to be their guy,” he said on why Napier wanted to offer him. “They aren’t really going to go out looking for anyone else, they’re going to be focused on me. They want me to be the future. It meant a lot to hear that from my dream school, it was a blessing to hear that.”

Quarterbacks coach Ryan O’Hara and Napier explained to Lagway just how his game fits what the Gators want to do on offense.

“They said that they love the way I play the game,” Lagway said on the message from the staff. “They said I keep the plays going at all time, if the pocket breaks down, I can extend the plays and make extra plays. If things don’t break down, I can still dice them up in the pocket.”

Lagway watched the quarterbacks closely during the spring practice and he was impressed by the practice.

“Practice was good to watch,” he said on practice. “It was a very structured practice, the intensity was really high and the energy was really high. It was a good practice to watch.”

After the visit and picking up the offer, Lagway says the Gators are a school in contention for him for a few reasons.

“Definitely high, real high,” Lagway said on his interest in Florida. “They’re definitely one of my favorites schools and definitely up there on the list. I can’t wait to keep building my relationship with Coach Napier and Coach O’Hara. I’m going to come back this summer and for a game.”
