Lagway has an “amazing” experience in the Swamp

On Saturday night, the Florida Gators hosted some of the best 2024 prospects in the country for the Kentucky game in the Swamp.

2024 quarterback DJ Lagway (6-2, 225, Willis, TX. High) was on campus and enjoyed the crowd and atmosphere in the Swamp.

“The atmosphere was so amazing,” Lagway said of his visit to Florida on Saturday. “I’m so excited to see where this program heads. I’m real excited to see that. The crowd was energetic, and the fans were just showing love, it felt amazing, it felt like I was at home. I’m excited to come back for another game.”

Lagway watched the Gators’ offense closely on Saturday and he liked the game plan Billy Napier had for the offense.

“I like how he uses the play-action and the RPO stuff,” he said on what he liked from Florida’s offense. “Bootlegs and sprint outs. I love that, I think it fits me perfectly. Me being out in space and able to make plays with my legs and with my arm. I think it fits me perfectly.”

Before the game, Lagway had the chance to talk with the coaching staff who had a message to him about watching the game.

“I got to talk with Coach [Ryan] O’Hara a lot,” Lagway said on talking to the coaches. “I didn’t get to speak with Coach Napier a lot. Coach O’Hara just said enjoy watching the game and just see how I could do once AR [Anthony Richardson] leaves.”

This year, Lagway has noticed that the Gators quarterback room is needing bodies to help the team in the future.

“It’s most definitely,” he said if the depth chart is appealing to him. “I can get in and develop early and get my feet wet early that’s the biggest thing for me.”

Following the visit, Lagway says his interest in the Gators is high and Saturday night helped that interest in Florida a lot.

“It’s real high,” he said on his interest in Florida. “As kid growing up, it has always been my dream school, so it was a dream come true to come to a game, so it has been awesome. It has been amazing.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Lagway says he wants to take official visits in the spring and then make a decision after official visits.
