Koht feels wanted by the Florida Gators coaching staff

The Florida Gators had a successful junior day on March 7th and that was one of the last events for most instate prospects so the Gators were able to take some momentum into this unplanned dead period.

Defensive end Keanu Koht (6-4, 215, Vero Beach, FL. High) was one of those guys on campus earlier this month and he had a good visit to Gainesville.

“I enjoyed the visit,” Koht said on his visit to Florida on junior day. “On the visit I literally saw everything I needed, that being the campus, the living areas and the classrooms. I did a photo shoot and I toured the campus.”

While on campus Koht had several coaches around him for most of the day and they all had a message for him.

“I spent a lot of one on one time with Coach [Todd] Grantham, Coach [Greg] Knox and Coach [Jamar] Chaney, they were with me the whole time basically,” he said on his time with the coaches. “They told me how I’d be used within the defense.”

Defensive coordinator Todd Grantham explained to Koht just how the Gators would use him and how important his position is to the defense.

“They want me at the Buck, which is a position that demands a versatile/athletic guy,” Koht said on where Florida wants him to play. “Me being pretty versatile, I could be the next guy to fill that void with in the defense. At that position you get a taste of everything on defense.”

Koht has been a frequent visitor to Gainesville so his relationship with the staff is a good one and a few things stand out to him about them.
“The whole coaching staff shows me love and Coach Knox continues to remind that I’m much wanted in Gainesville,” he said on his relationship with the staff. “I have a good relationship with everyone I’d be around the most. They’re all nice people to be around and they all share that passion for the game and hunger for success. That’s what I like most about them.”

The Gators are one of the teams that made the cut for Koht in his recently released top five.

“It’s always fun to go to Florida, they’re one of my top schools of interest and they’re instate,” Koht said of his interest in Florida. “Georgia, Alabama, LSU, Auburn and Florida are my top five in no particular order.”

Koht is now just waiting out this dead period so he can start to take official visits and then hopefully make a decision.

“I’m going to take officials to those five schools,” he said. “In July [when he will make a decision] if this coronavirus doesn’t push back as far as May and June.”
