Kelton Smith says he’s “very high” on the Florida Gators

The Florida Gators coaching staff hosted several prospects from different states on Saturday for spring practice and unofficial visits.

Offensive lineman Kelton Smith (6-5, 300, Columbus, GA. Carver) was on campus and picked up an offer from the Gators after practice.

“Coach [Billy] Napier offered me,” Smith said. “He said I was very athletic and a great player and forwarded me an offer. The offer means a lot to me, and I was very excited happy about it.”

Smith was able to watch the Gators practice and he focused on the offensive line and liked the tempo of the practice.

“It was a great visit,” he said on how the visit went. “I got to see the academics and the new facility that they’re getting. I got to watch practice, it was great and very up-tempo and fast.”

Offensive line coaches Rob Sale and Darnell Stapleton spoke at length with Smith on Saturday and explained why the Georgia native is needed in Gainesville.

“They like that I’m very versatile and I can play inside and outside,” Smith said on the message from Rob Sale and Darnell Stapleton. “They just said they need big fast athletic guys like me on the offensive line and they love my film, and I would fit in perfect with them at either tackle or guard.”

Heading into the visit, Smith wasn’t sure about the Gators but he says Florida made a move in his recruitment during the visit.

“They’re very high, they moved up on my board,” he said on where Florida stands in his recruitment. “I like the way they coach, and I love the new facility they’re getting, and the academics was a big standout that’s most important. The new staff was awesome.”
