Keeley enjoyed his two-day visit to Gainesville last week

Last weekend, the Florida Gators hosted one of the top players in the country when they played Kentucky in the Swamp.

Defensive end Keon Keeley (6-6, 242, Tampa, FL. Berkeley Prep) was on campus for the first time for a game and enjoyed the crowd in the Swamp.

“It went really well,” Keeley said of his visit to Florida on Saturday. “Just getting to see the gameday environment and meeting the staff again and seeing how they operate. It went really well.”

Keeley watched the Gators’ defensive line closely including the outside linebacker/rush end position and he liked how they played against the Wildcats.

“It was definitely fun to see them play,” he said on watching Florida’s defensive line. “One of those hits was pretty hard. It was a crazy hit on Will Levis.”

Outside linebackers coach Mike Peterson has explained to Keeley just how he will fit into Florida’s defense if he comes to Gainesville.

“The scheme allows me to be versatile,” Keeley said on how he thinks he fits into Florida’s defense. “Move around, just play the game they have for me. Just saying that I would play the edge.”

Keeley was on campus both Saturday and Sunday and while on campus he had the chance to really meet the entire coaching staff.

“Coach Peterson on Saturday,” he said on the coaches he got to talk to. “On Sunday, I got to meet more of the staff. They have a really good staff, I feel like they work well together and I feel like they have a lot of momentum. A lot to be excited about.”

Head coach Billy Napier also met at length with Keeley and had a simple message about staying home for college.

“Coach Napier just said he was building something special,” Keeley said on talking with Napier. “It was really good to meet with him and see his thoughts on everything. He said that Florida has everything that you could want.”

Now that Keeley has visited for a gameday, the defensive end says he likes several things about the Gators.

“Good atmosphere and good academics,” he said on what he likes about Florida. “Good coaches, good academics, nice campus and it’s Florida.”

Florida is working to get Keeley back on campus for the LSU for an official visit but right now only one visit is set up.

“Alabama on October 8th,” Keeley said on other visits planned. “I haven’t set any other ones yet.”
