Kearney calls the Florida Gators his “dream school”

Fall camp has most of the Florida Gators’ coaching staff’s attention but on Friday the Gators did hand out a new offer to an instate prospect.

2023 offensive lineman Roderick Kearney (6-4, 275, Orange Park, FL. High) picked up an offer after he talked to a Gators’ assistant coach.

“Coach [John] Hevesy offered me,” Kearney said of the coach who offered him on Friday. “He told me about their program and how he wants me to visit their campus.”

Kearney has nine offers already but he admits Friday’s offer from Florida was a big one to him.

“The offer means a lot to me,” he said on what the offer means to him. “Florida has been my dream school for years and my reaction was speechless.”

Offensive line coach John Hevesy explained to Kearney just what the Gators like about his game and why they want him in Gainesville.

“He said it’s up to me where I want to go but he would like for me to become a Gator,” Kearney said on the message from Hevesy. “He likes the way I move and my athleticism and the way I get after defenders.”

Kearney hasn’t met the coaching staff yet, but he does like a few things about the Gators already as he looks to build a better relationship with the staff.

“I don’t know right now, I’m still figuring it out, I haven’t gotten to know the coaches that much,” he said on his interest level in Florida. “I like the campus and the area and the way they play. Their fan base is pretty good.”

Several other programs are hard after Kearney as he heads into his junior year of high school.

“Schools like Alabama, South Carolina, Kansas and more but it’s a lot,” Kearney said on other schools recruiting him hard.

INSIDERS TAKE: Kearney says he plans to get to Gainesville this fall for a game and that will be his first visit to see the Gators.
