Joseph calls the Florida Gators home after his official

The Florida Gators had a big recruiting weekend last weekend as they had several commits on campus that the staff were trying to shore up their commitments with.

One of those prospects was Florida Gators linebacker commit Vosean Joseph (6-2, 215, Miami, FL Norland) who had a good trip that included talks with Jim McElwain and Randy Shannon.

“It was a good trip, it was good,” Joseph said. “I got to sit down with Coach Mac and Coach Shannon during the visit and hang out with some of the players. Antonio Callaway was my host and it was good, he’s a cool dude. I know him from down here in Miami.”

Last week Joseph told GatorCountry that he needed to feel wanted at Florida this weekend and that’s exactly what he felt in Gainesville.

“I felt wanted at Florida this weekend,” he said. “The atmosphere was great during the visit and everything was just awesome. I had some really good talks with the coaches and my parents got some questions answered too.”

Linebackers coach Randy Shannon also made him feel like a priority when the two broke down the defense together on Sunday.

“Coach Shannon was just breaking down the defense for me at linebacker,” Joseph said. “He told me to get ready to go and be ready to in work at the collegiate level. He told me that he wants me train at all four linebacker positions.”

Before Joseph left campus on Monday the linebacker commit had the chance to meet with McElwain about his future, if he decides to stick with the Florida Gators.

“My parents and I sat down with Coach McElwain and he talked to me about Florida and my potential,” he said. “He told us that I had the talent to play at Florida and that he just needs me up there at Florida. He said he was going to work me hard to get me ready for next year.”

One thing Joseph wanted to do this past weekend was hang out with the players and the linebacker got a good vibe from the team.

“The players were telling me to look at the depth chart because it’s thin at the position and I can come in play early there,” Joseph said. “They said that everything was cool up there and that the coaches just want you to get in there and ball out and have fun.”

Joseph has been committed to Florida since last February, but the Alabama Crimson Tide are hot in pursuit of him and he says he still has some thinking to do.

“I got to see my future home this weekend so it met my expectations,” Joseph said. “Florida is still my home but I’ve got to sit down with my parents and see what they say. We have to make a list of pro’s and con’s for both schools [Florida and Alabama] and I will make my final decision on signing day.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Joseph will be playing in an all-star game this weekend but Coach McElwain will meet with the linebacker’s parents on Wednesday. Joseph will not meet with any other coach between now and signing day, which helps Florida out a ton. I expect the Gators to keep Joseph in the class.
