Jones has some thinking to do after visiting the Florida Gators

This weekend, the Florida Gators had one of their top targets on campus at a huge position of need.

Quarterback Tramell Jones (6-0, 196, Jacksonville, FL. Mandarin) was on campus and enjoyed being around the team.

“I’ve been here a couple of times, but I got to see the campus a little bit more,” Jones said of his official visit. “I got to be around the guys a little more, see what they have, see the bond they have. It was loud.”

After the visit, Jones says he has some thinking to do about what’s next for him as far as a commitment goes but he does have a favorite.

“Just taking a couple of days to think about what I’m doing,” he said on where things stand in his recruitment. “What I’m doing for future, just taking a couple of days. There’s a number one but I’m just taking a couple of days.”

One of things that stood out to Jones during the visit was getting the chance to spend time with quarterback DJ Lagway.

“The highlight was being in the Swamp,” Jones said. “Also getting to spend that time with DJ [Lagway] and all the other players. I wanted to see the atmosphere and the culture and see what they thought about the season, getting to see how they were outside of football.”

Lagway spent a lot of time with Jones all weekend and the quarterback think the two of them are a lot alike.

“He will push me, and I’ll push him,” he said on playing with DJ Lagway potentially. “That’s what I go in saying can I push him and can he push me to get me to the next level. Get me developed. He’s not a big ego guy, I think we’re similar in a lot of ways.”

Jones sees an opportunity to come in and compete at Florida as he knows Lagway is the only scholarship quarterback the Gators have.

“I just think I can come in and get some reps,” Jones said. “Immediately, the opportunity is there to compete, and I’m going to come in and compete to be the starter. I’m going to push him on and off the field.”

The Jacksonville native says he may return to Gainesville again next weekend when the Gators take on Ole Miss.

“Probably, I might be but I don’t know yet,” he said of he plans to be back in Gainesville next weekend. “I might be.”

A few schools have reached out to Jones since he left the FSU class but he’s unsure of what might come from those talks.

“I don’t know yet, I’m going to see what other trips and if other schools want me to take a trip,” Jones said on if this is the only visit. “Pitt reached out to me, I’m supposed to get on the phone with USC but they just got another guy.”

One thing that helped the Gators this weekend was Jones teammate and Texas receiver commit Jaime Ffrench was also on campus this weekend.

“It was good, it was crazy, we were at practice, and I haven’t played since week two but we’re at practice and he told me he was going on an official visit to Florida,” he said on having his teammate Jaime French on campus with him. “I told him that I liked what I was hearing, and I was pretty much everywhere with him. That’s my guy. I think Florida has a shot with him.”
