Jones excited about the Gators class and his future roommate

While the Florida Gators are preparing for their first game on Saturday, quarterback commit Jalon Jones (6-3, 205, Richmond, VA. Henrico) is also preparing for his first game.

Jones who just transferred back to his hometown school says that he’s excited for his opener on Friday night.

“We had a couple of scrimmages so far and our first game is this Friday,” Jones said of his season opener. “It’s going to be a big game because it’s a home game. I have a bunch of good skill players around me so it’s going to be real exciting.”

Not only is Jones back home but he knows where his future home is for college and that alone has allowed the quarterback to enjoy his senior year.

“It’s a lot of pressure off of me,” he said of being committed heading into his senior year. “Now I just have to go out there to improve and get my game better instead of worrying about which school is going to be watching my film and watching for the big plays. Now I’m just working on the little things to improve my game.”

Jones is also keeping in touch with his future coaches in Gainesville as he talks with head coach Dan Mullen a lot about how the team is doing in practice so far.

“I talk to Coach Mullen everyday, he texts me and if it’s not everyday it’s every other day,” Jones said of his talks with the Florida staff. “I talked to Coach Brian [Johnson] this morning [Monday] about everything and seeing how things were going. He said they were looking forward to the game and he said they’re really excited about what they have.”

On Monday, Jones found out about quarterback Feleipe Franks being named the starting quarterback at Florida and the Gators commit believes in what Franks brings to the table.

“It’s good, he’s a great player and a great leader,” he said of the news of Feleipe Franks being named the starting quarterback. “From what I’ve seen so far, people want to play behind him.”

Off the field, Jones has been recruiting a lot of guys to join him in Gainesville and he’s excited about where the class is at while also mentioning that the Gators have a few more guys headed into the class soon.

“I’m really excited about it, we still have a couple of more to come,” Jones said of the recruiting class. “We have a few more coming in and I’m excited to see them. I found my new roommate, who I’m going to be rooming with when I get there and he’s going to be committing real soon. I’m excited about that.”

Jones and the rest of the commits have been vocal on social media about wanting certain targets in the class and the message to those guys is simple and to the point.

“We’re just telling them that they’re needed at Florida,” he said of the message he’s telling guys. “Florida is a powerhouse and why wouldn’t you want to be apart of bringing them back to power where they usually are.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Jones said he and other commits are planning the LSU game as the big weekend they all want to visit Gainesville. The LSU game is also setting up to be a big weekend for top targets to visit the Swamp.
