Jon Sumrall’s contract details

Gator Country reports Jon Sumrall’s contract details, which were agreed upon by Sumrall on November 30th, 2025 and Florida Athletic Director Scott Stricklin on December 1st, 2025.

Annualized compensation for Sumrall’s six year term

CY1 – $7,450,000 (Effective date – December 31, 2026 (annualized)

CY2 – $7,450,000 (January 1, 2027 – December 31, 2027

CY3 – $7,450,000 (January 1, 2028 – December 31, 2029)

CY4 – $7,450,000 (January 1, 2030 – December 31, 2030)

CY5 – $7,450,000 (January 1, 2031 – December 31, 2031)

CY6 – $7,450,000 (January 1, 2031 – December 31, 2031) (annualized)

*or the team’s last game of the 2031-2032

Guarantee (University Terminates Without Cause) 

70% of total remaining Annualized Compensation due through the otherwise unexpired term.

  • Due in equal monthly installments through the remainder of the term.
  • Subject to offset for an NFL or a Division 1 coaching or front office positions, although coach is not required to accept any position if such positions is not in the best interest of his coaching career as coach reasonably determines in his discretion.

Buyout (Coach Terminates Without Cause)

If coach terminates employment without just cause to accept other coaching employment prior to end of the term, University shall be entitled to liquidated damages pursuant to the following schedule.

Effective date – December 31, 2026: $10,000,000 buyout

January 1, 2027 – December 31, 2027: $8,000,000 buyout

January 1, 2028 – December 1, 2028: $3,000,000 buyout

December 2, 2028 – December 1, 2029: $2,000,000 buyout

December 2, 2029 – December 1, 2030: $2,000,000 buyout

December 2, 2030 – December 1, 2031: $1,000,000

December 2, 2031 – thereafter: $0 buyout

(50% of the liquidates damages shall be payable within 12 months of accepting coaching employment, the remaining balance due within the following 12 months.)

Assistant coaches and support staff

The coach shall be provided an annual salary budget of a minimum of $16,300,000 to hire assistant coaches and support staff members, including but not limited to: operations, recruiting, administrative, strength and conditioning, personnel, player development, quality control coaches, analysts, video, and creative media.

  • Coach and athletic director shall agree on length of contract terms and other conditions of employment for assistant coaches and support staff with the Athletic Director having final authority.

Annual Performance Incentives (Non-cumulative)

CFP Championship Game Win: $5,000,000

CFP Championship Game Appearance: $3,750,000

CFP Semifinal Game Appearance: $3,000,000

CFP Quarterfinal Game Appearance: $2,000,000

CFP 1st Round Appearance / Bye: $1,250,000

Non-CFP Bowl Game Appearance: $100,000

SEC Postseason Incentives (Non-cumulative) 

SEC Championship Game Win: $1,500,000

SEC Championship Game Appearance: $250,000

Coach of the Year Incentives (Cumulative) 

SEC Coach of the Year: $50,000

National Coach of the Year: $100,000

Academic Incentives (Non-Cumulative) 

Single year team APR of 965 or higher: $100,000

Single year team APR of 950 or higher: $75,000

Single year team APR of 940 or higher: $50,000
