Johnson thankful for a Florida Gators offer

New tight ends coach Tim Brewster has already wrapped up his position group for the 2021 class so now he’s focusing in on the 2022 class.

Last week, Brewster offered 2022 tight end Jake Johnson (6-5, 210, Bogart, GA. Oconee County) after a phone call.

“I’m thankful for the offer from Coach [Tim] Brewster and the University of Florida,” Johnson said on which coach from Florida offered him. “I’m looking forward to meeting all the coaches but not sure what’s going to happen with the COVID-19 virus so not sure on summer camps or visits yet.”

Johnson was excited to get the offer and is looking forward to building a relationship with Brewster in the future.

“Very thankful for the Florida offer, obviously it’s a big time football program,” he said on what the offer means to him. “I just look forward to making relationships with the coaches and right now my main focus is just working hard in the weight room and keep getting better.”

Brewster explained a little to Johnson about former guys he has coached and how he could be used on offense.

“He just told me about players he had coached in the past,” Johnson said on the message from Brewster to him. “I’m a flex tight end so there are a lot of mismatch opportunities all over the field. I’m going to spend time over phone calls getting to know Coach Brewster better and more about the Florida program.”

The Georgia native doesn’t know a whole lot about the Gators but he does know they’re one of the top teams in the conference.

“They’re a big time SEC program,” he said on what he knows about Florida. “They compete with Georgia to win the SEC East.”

The Gators have some tough competition for Johnson as several other big time programs are after him hard.

“Georgia, LSU, Clemson, Oklahoma, Florida State and South Carolina are on the radar,” Johnson said on other schools recruiting him hard. “Not sure when I will make a decision but hopefully by this time next year I will have made up my mind.”
