Johnson remains in contact with the Florida Gators coaching staff

The Florida Gators coaching staff is having to expand their offensive line recruiting board after two of their top targets committed elsewhere recently.

One guy that the Gators continue to talk to is offensive lineman Caleb Johnson (6-7, 295, Ocala, FL. Trinity Catholic) who says he talks to several coaches at Florida.

“Most of the staff texts me off and on,” Johnson said of which coach from Florida is recruiting him. “I’ll talk to Coach [John] Hevesy on the phone every so often. Great folks.”

Offensive line coach John Hevesy has made sure to tell Johnson to continue to work and his recruitment will pay off due to that work.

“Just keeping grinding during the strange time,” he said on the message from Hevesy. “He said focus on what you can control and everything finds a way of working out.”

Hevesy has also explained to Johnson just what the Gators like about his game and how they’ve seen improvement in his game.

“He likes the progress I made from camps this year,” Johnson said on what Hevesy says about his game. “I love competition against top dudes and that’s how you get better. I’ll play anywhere they want.”

The Gators have yet to offer Johnson but the lineman says he will continue to work hard to earn that offer.

“All I can control is the work I put in everyday,” he said on if Florida has talked to him about a potential offer. “Florida’s staff does a good job staying in contact and building a relationship. If they decide I’m a player that could help then I’ll take a deeper look. If not then I’ve got great options available now, it’s all about finding the right fit.”

An offer from the Gators would be for the Ocala native as Johnson likes several things about Florida.

“It would be unbelievable,” Johnson said on what an offer from Florida would mean to him. “They have a great staff, great school and great fans. Just would have to be the right fit for me.”

Several other schools however have already offered Johnson and are recruiting him hard now.

“Notre Dame, LSU, Auburn, Penn State, Arizona State, Florida State and Miami,” he said on schools recruiting him hard.
