The Florida Gators are in the process of putting the final touches on the 2020 class but are already in the process of building a solid 2021 class.
2021 defensive back Jakailin Johnson (6-0, 168, Saint Louis, MO. DeSmet) is one of the guys that Florida is recruiting hard early in the process.
“I talked to Coach [Torrian] Gray not too long ago, we talk to each other weekly,” Johnson said of his talks with Florida. “It’s been good. He seems like a really good person over the phone, so I want to get down to campus to make sure everything is the same and how I think it is.”
Defensive backs coach Torrian Gray has explained to Johnson what the Gators like about his game on defense.
“He likes the mentality that I have as a player,” he said on what Gray likes about him. “They think I have a good size as a big cornerback and that I can put in the work to become one of the best cornerbacks.”
Johnson hasn’t visited Florida yet but he says the Gators history with defensive backs is what has him interested in the Gators.
“The defensive backs that they produce that go to The League,” Johnson said on what stands out about Florida. “They have a lot of good corners in The League.”
Next up for Johnson will be visits to several different schools and he knows which schools he wants to see.
“Ohio State, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Georgia, Florida,” he said on the schools he’s thinking about visiting and when he wants to make a decision. “ I want to get down to some schools so I can start narrowing my decision. I don’t know if I want to be committed going into senior year or not. That’s probably going to be a huge part of it.”
