Johnson impressed by the Florida Gators’ coaching staff

Several prospects from the state of Georgia were in Gainesville on Saturday to watch the Florida Gators go through spring practice.

Athlete RJ Johnson (6-3, 180, McDonough, GA. Eagle’s Landing Christian School) was on campus with several of his 7-on-7 teammates on Saturday.

“I had a great visit,” Johnson said of his visit to Florida on Saturday. “I was very impressed with what I saw. I got a chance to watch them practice and the see the coaches interact with the players.”

While on campus, Johnson had the chance to meet the new staff for the first time and he walked impressed by what they’re building at Florida.

“I had a great conversation with Coach [Billy] Napier and Coach [Corey] Raymond on my visit to Florida,” he said on the coaches he spoke with. “I was very impressed with what I saw and the new culture being around there.”

Defensive backs coach Corey Raymond explained to Johnson just where they see the athlete playing and how he would fit into things.

“We talked about a lot, they want me to play cornerback,” Johnson said on his talks with Raymond. “He talked about how I could be used in the different style of defenses they play. Also, I got a chance to see them live in practice so I see and got the feel of how it would be if I went to Florida.”

Johnson watched Raymond closely during the practice and he thinks his coaching style fits his game.

“Coach Raymond has a laidback coaching style that definitely fits my kind of play,” he said of watching Raymond at practice. “I know that he’s coached some great players that I aspire to be like someday. I thought the practice was run very well.”

Head coach Billy Napier also spent some time with Johnson during the visit as the two continue to build their relationship.

“Coach Napier said that he’s been watching me for some time,” Johnson said of the message from Napier. “He’s very impressed with my film and also that he can’t wait to further our relationship as time goes on.”

After the visit, Johnson says he has a lot of interest in the Gators and is already looking forward to getting back down to Gainesville.

“I have a lot of interest in Florida,” he said. “I was very impressed with what I saw, and I can’t wait to be back.”
