Johnson has an “awesome” visit with the Florida Gators on Wednesday

Wednesday was a busy day for the Florida Gators as they hosted two virtual visits with two of their top targets in the 2021 class.

Offensive lineman Caleb Johnson (6-7, 295, Ocala, FL. Trinity Catholic) was one of them and he enjoyed his visit and talking with head coach Dan Mullen.

“It was awesome,” Johnson said of his visit with Florida on Wednesday. “I already know a lot of the coaching staff, Coach [Christian] Robinson, Coach [John] Hevesy and I’ve spoken to Coach Mullen a little bit here and there. It was a good meeting; the entire staff, the nutrition lady and the weight room coach were there, we talked to him a lot. I’m definitely looking forward to their new facility, they were talking to me about that a lot, it looks like it’s going to be awesome.”

Prospects have noted that the Gators’ virtual visits are different because they were interactive and Johnson agreed with that.

“Yes, it was different,” he said on Florida’s visit being set up differently than others. “They will show you a lot of the weight room coach doing videos then he will explain his stuff face to face and then you can ask him questions. It was definitely set up good.”

Johnson has been a frequent visitor to Gainesville but this was his first time talking to them since picking up an offer and he says the talks were like old times.

“Basically another time talking to them, nothing has really changed except that I know that I can go there if I want,” Johnson said of Wednesday’s talk were any different. “Talking to them has basically been the same, especially with Hevesy, we’re just going through offensive line stuff, and I’ve been sending him some film.”

This time Johnson did get to see more of what Florida has to offer and one thing in particular stood out to him on Wednesday’s visit.

“We talked to the nutritionist staff,” he said on if he seen anything different on Wednesday. “I know both of them are from Indiana and I met them at a Florida practice last season but they went over a lot of stuff during the visit and it was good getting their side of things.”

Offensive line coach John Hevesy explained to Johnson on Wednesday what they were looking for in a lineman this year.

“One of their tackles transferred out and he talked about that,” Johnson said of Hevesy’s talk with him on Wednesday. “He said they need tackles, size and length and he sees me as that type of guy.”

Head coach Dan Mullen spent a lot of time with Johnson and his family on Wednesday and the lineman’s mom liked the visit.

“We talked a lot of school and a lot of football,” he said on his talk with Mullen. “At the end of the visit we talked to him and we talked more than we have ever talked before. It was me, my dad and my mom with him. He was answering all of our questions and it was nice to talk to him. My mom loved it, she got all of the mom questions answered.”

After Wednesday’s visit Johnson is looking forward to getting back on campus but he says the Gators are now a team he’s looking hard at.

“Obviously now they’re one of the schools I’m looking at, like for sure,” Johnson said on his interest in Florida. “I’m not really a flashy guy that gets on Twitter and does one of those top 10 edit things but Florida is definitely one of the schools I’m looking at, especially since they’re 30 minutes away, huge plus.”
