Johnson has a lot of interest in the Florida Gators

The Florida Gators coaching staff has been offering a lot of underclassmen the last few weeks as they have pretty much wrapped up the 2019 recruiting class.

On Saturday, tight end Jeremiah Johnson (6-7, 215, Homerville, GA. Clinch County) shared the news that he received one of those offers from Florida.

“I got offered last week by Florida,” Johnson said of his Florida offer. “It was the tight end coach [Larry Scott] who told me about it.”

When Scott offered Johnson last week, the Gators assistant coach explained why Florida wanted to be one of the first schools to offer Johnson.

“He said that we like your film a lot,” he said on Scott’s message to him. “He said you can do a lot of things for us at Florida.”

Johnson plays receiver in high school but many schools including Florida think he has a future at another position on the offensive side of the ball.

“They want me to play tight end,” Johnson said of where Florida likes him. “They say I can block and I can run any route that they ask me to do at tight end.”

The 2020 tight end has never visited Gainesville but he knows a little bit about Dan Mullen’s program and that makes him interested in the Gators.

“It means a lot to me,” he said on what the offer means to him. “I have high interest in them because their team has a hard working mentality and everybody has that dog in them.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Johnson says he plans to visit Florida this spring after picking up the offer from the Gators. Several other big schools are also close to offering the 6-7 tight end that can move like a receiver.
