Johnson excited about his recent Florida Gators offer

Last week was the final week that the Florida Gators coaching staff were out on the road for the spring evaluation period and they visited several prospects.

Running back Christopher Johnson (5-11, 178, Fort Lauderdale, FL. Dillard) received a visit for his spring game and picked up an offer from the Gators following his performance.

“Coach [Jabbar] Juluke offered me,” Johnson said. “It was after the spring game, that night I talked to him. He has been by to see me before, but he said he wanted to see what I could do on the field before he offered me. He said they don’t throw out fake offers, so he wanted to make sure.”

Johnson has been on a hot streak as of late as several big schools including Miami and Texas A&M have offered him but he says picking up an offer from Florida is big.

“It means a lot,” he said on what the offer means to him. “It’s an SEC school, a big-time school. Florida is home.”

Running backs coach Jabbar Juluke explained to Johnson just what the Gators like about his game and how he could fit into Florida’s offense.

“He likes my speed and my change of direction,” Johnson said on what Juluke likes about his game. “He says there isn’t too many high school kids that can do what I do and that are blessed with the kind of speed that I have. He says that I could be a big factor into Florida’s offense.”

Juluke and Johnson have been building a relationship this spring and the running back trusts that the Gators’ assistant coach can teach him on the field.

“It’s going pretty good,” he said on his relationship with Juluke. “He’s a good coach and I could learn a lot from him, he’s been there and done the things and played football. He has coached a lot of NFL running backs.”

Next up for Johnson will be a trip to Gainesville so he can meet the rest of the Gators’ coaching staff and get a feel for the campus.

“I just want to get up to the school and see how I like it,” Johnson said on his interest in Florida. “I have to talk to Coach Juluke about when I can visit, I’m coming up there this summer though.”

This summer is expected to be a busy one for Johnson as he has several visits already planned and he hopes to make a decision sometime this summer.

“I’m going to Clemson June 10-12th, Rutgers from the 21st-23rd on an official visit and then I’m going to Louisville after that,” he said on summer visits. “I’m going to make a decision probably before the season.”
