Joel Williams commits to the Florida Gators

The Florida Gators picked up their second commitment of the weekend on Sunday night when they picked up a big out of state target.

Defensive back Joel Williams (6-1, 180, Baton Rouge, LA. Madison Prep Academy) committed to the Gators over LSU, Tennessee and Georgia.

I will be committing to the University of Florida,” Williams said.

Williams visited Gainesville this past weekend and he likes the tradition of defensive backs in Gainesville.

“I’ve always liked Florida, they tell me I can be a big part of DBU,” Williams said of Florida. “I talk to Coach [Torrian] Gray almost every day and tells me that I can be a big part of the defense.”

The defensive back has been recruited by some schools as a corner and others as a safety but the Gators like Williams at cornerback.

With Williams’ commitment the Gators now have 12 commitments in the class of 2020 and he joins Jonathan Odom as prospects who committed to Florida this weekend.

Williams is the third defensive back in the class of 2020 as he joins cornerback Avery Helm and safety Rashad Torrence in the class.
