Jenkins believes in Mullen’s vision for the Florida Gators

The Florida Gators had several top 2019 targets on campus on Saturday but they also had several big 2020 prospects in the Swamp on Saturday afternoon when they took on South Carolina.

2020 defensive back Keontae Jenkins (5-10, 160, Virginia Beach, VA. Frank W. Cox) made the long trip down and enjoyed the visit.

“The visit was great overall,” Jenkins said of his visit to Florida on Saturday. “I had a nice time and I loved the way their defensive backs played and how they fought back and won.”

This was the first time for Jenkins to see a game this fall in Gainesville and he got to talk to several coaches after the game.

“I got to talk to several of them,” he said on the coaches he talked to on Saturday. “I talked mainly with Coach [Sal] Sunseri and Coach [Charlton] Warren. I also talked with Coach Mullen.”

Defensive backs coach Charlton Warren spoke with Jenkins on Saturday about how he could fit into the Gators defense if he chooses Florida.

“He was just talking to me about how I fit in their scheme and system,” Jenkins said on the message from Warren. “He likes that I can play man in press and I can play off coverage.”

Area recruiter Sal Sunseri also spoke with Jenkins on Saturday about why he’s such a big target for Florida.

“Mainly telling me how I can fit in and all of those things,” he said on the message from Sunseri. “He likes my speed and ability in man to man coverage.”

After Jenkins spoke with those two coaches, he also got the chance to speak with head coach Dan Mullen about his vision for the program.

“I only got to talk to him for a little bit,” Jenkins said of his conversation with Mullen. “He said he wants to get the Swamp back to how it used to be.”

Jenkins heard the pitches from the coaching staff but he also walked away believing in what Mullen and his staff are trying to build in Gainesville.

“I think he can do that,” he said on if he believes Mullen can get Florida back. “The impressions of them were good and I liked how they really want to win and become a power house.”

The 2020 cornerback has many top offers from top schools already but he says he has legit interest in the Gators.

“My interest is high,” Jenkins said of his interest level in Florida.

INSIDERS TAKE: Jenkins is one of the top defensive backs in the country for the 2020 class and has a lot of interest in the Gators. Florida has recruited him hard since the staff arrived in Gainesville.
