James likes the Florida Gators history with defensive lineman

The last few weeks have been busy for the Florida Gators coaching staff as they go through fall camp, plus they’ve been offering several underclassmen prospects.

2022 defensive tackle Nick James (6-3, 254, Bradenton, FL. IMG) picked up an offer a few weeks ago after he talked to the coaching staff on the phone.

“I was on the phone with Coach [David] Cooper and Coach [David] Turner and they offered,” James said. “They just like me and they say I’m one of their top players and they just wanted to get me the offer.”

James transferred to IMG from Alabama and he says being in the sunshine state makes an offer from Florida a big one to him.

“It means a lot because now I’m in Florida and they’re one of the top schools people talk about here,” he said on what the offer means to him. “It was kind of expected because I’ve been on the phone with them a lot.”

Defensive line coach David Turner explained to James during the call how he would fit into the Gators defense and what Florida likes about his game.

“I’m a pass rusher and they breed pass rushers there,” James said on what all Turner told him during the call. “They want me to be a rush guy from inside the defensive line at defensive tackle, they like my quickness off the ball.”

James has been talking with Turner and Cooper a lot as he tries to learn more about the Gators program.

“We just talk about life in general, we just talk about what’s going on right now,” he said on his talks with Florida. “Being from Alabama, I’m trying to learn more about Florida because it’s all about Alabama and Auburn in Alabama. I did watch the Florida/Auburn game last year, their defensive line got after it.”

Several other big schools, including the Gators arch-rival, are also recruiting James hard as he heads into his junior season.

“Auburn, Ohio State, Michigan, Florida, and Florida State,” James said on schools recruiting him hard. “I’m probably going to commit before my senior year, maybe on my birthday.”
