Ingram sees a “great opportunity” with the Florida Gators

Last Thursday, the Florida Gators hosted two legacy receivers on campus for spring practice in hopes of gaining ground with both prospects.

Athlete CJ Ingram (6-4, 195, Hawthorne, FL. High) was one of those guys on campus and he liked how the team competed.

“It was good, I’ve been to plenty of practices, it was a normal spring practice,” Ingram said of his visit to Florida on Thursday. “I’m used to being out there, so it was a good feeling watching everyone compete and have fun.”

Ingram watched the Gators last season so he’s familiar with the roster and offense but he was impressed by the receivers in practice.

“The offense looks real explosive,” he said of the offense. “Watching Graham Mertz last season, he was very impressive, and he was at practice as well. And then DJ Lagway, everybody pretty much knows what he does. He was pretty impressive as well and the receivers were explosive especially Kahlil Jackson and #3 Tre Wilson. Those two really stuck out to me.”

While on campus, Ingram talked to two coaches but receivers coach Billy Gonzales is his main contact in his recruitment.

“I talked to Coach Billy Gonzales most of the time, but I talked to Coach Napier before and after practice,” Ingram said of the coaches he talked to on Thursday. “Coach Gonzales has been talking to me throughout the entire recruiting process but when I talk to him, we really don’t talk about football. He asks me how things are going outside of football.”

Ingram who plays quarterback in high school is most likely to play receiver and Gonzales explained to him how he can help the Gators.

“He has been talking to me about playing receiver,” he said on the message from Gonzales about football. “He talks about me playing the X spot at receiver. Me having mismatches against smaller defensive backs with the footwork I have.”

The Hawthorne prospect is very interested in the Gators, and he knows the opportunity is a big one for he and his family.

“I’m definitely interested in Florida,” Ingram said of his interest. “Florida is home, I go to school at Hawthorne, and I live in Gainesville so it isn’t far away, and I could do pretty much everything in the backyard in front of the family. It would be a great opportunity.”

Ingram has several teams interested in him and he says a commitment is coming as he starts to set official visits.

“It’s going to be coming sooner than people expect,” he said on when he wants to decide. “Me and my family have been talking it over, I’m leaning towards making a decision before my senior season.”
