Hopper says “I’m a Gator” after official visit to Florida

The Florida Gators hosted nine commits on campus this weekend out of the 14 visitors on campus for the biggest official visitor weekend of the year.

Linebacker commit Tyron Hopper (6-2, 205, Roswell, GA. High) was one of those on campus this weekend and he accomplished what he wanted to this weekend.

“It was amazing, getting to see all of the coaches and all that,” Hopper said of his visit to Florida. “I really didn’t come down for that, I came down to really get a feel for the players and all of that and that was pretty good to get hang around with them and spend some time with them. Also get to see the coaches to see.”

Hopper is very close with the Gators coaching staff but getting to be around some of his future teammates was huge for him this weekend.

“It was real big,” he said on getting to be around some of his future teammates. “I mean it was a big part of my decision to see how I get to vibe with them and feel for them because it’s always amazing talking with Coach [Christian] Robinson.”

On Sunday, Hopper got the chance to sit down with head coach Dan Mullen where the Gators head man laid out how things work in Gainesville.

“He was just really telling me about the Gator standard,” he said on Mullen’s message to him. “He was telling me how everything goes and that he’s ready for me to sign and he can’t wait to get to work.”

This weekend Hopper also had the chance to be around several of Florida’s top targets and talk to them and get feel of where they’re leaning.

“Naw, not really,” he said on if he was recruiting anyone this weekend. “Everybody was on the same page, we talked and all that. So I feel like a lot of the guys that were here are highly considering Florida.”

When Hopper did recruit other guys, he had a simple and to the point message for them.

“We’re the first official class so we are his guys,” Hopper said on his message to guys when he did recruit them. “That’s just what I always let them know, plus with this season that just past, our class can come and really did something amazing.”

The linebacker commit admit that he hung out with most of the players and he was trying to get more familiar with the other commits as well.

“I hung out with all of them,” he said. “I hung out with the offensive lineman from IMG [Dontae Lucas], I hung out with Keon [Zipperer] and Lloyd [Summerall]. I hung out with Jalon [Jones] but I already knew Jalon though. I hung out with Wardrick [Wilson].”

Hopper didn’t want to say who was next to commit but he did admit that he knows of a few surprises for Florida.

“I can’t tell y’all that,” Hopper said joking when asked who was going to commit next. “I know two or three that’s going to commit.”

Next up for Hopper he says is his signing day as he will now sign during the early signing period this month.

“I’m signing the 19th,” Hopper said on when he plans to sign. “I’m a Gator.”

Heading into the visit many were worried about South Carolina’s last push for Hopper but he says nobody needs to worry about where he will land after this weekend.

“They don’t need to be worrying about nothing,” he said of fans worried about him stressing. “I’m a Gator.”
