On Sunday night the Florida Gators coaching staff visited several of their commits on the first day of the contact period as they look to make sure everyone is still solid with Florida.
Linebacker commit Tyron Hopper (6-2, 205, Roswell, GA. High) was one of the guys who received a visit on Sunday and it was a good visit with his position coach.
“It was amazing, good visit,” Hopper said of his visit with Christian Robinson on Sunday. “We were just chilling and talking about everything. He’s coming back next week.”
Robinson and Hopper have a solid relationship that dates back over a year now so Sunday was just about catching up with each other.
“Nothing much really, just academics,” he said on the conversations with Robinson. “He was telling me about where he sees me playing at when I get there and just things like that.”
The Gators assistant coach broke down exactly where Hopper will play next year in Florida’s defense.
“He basically is telling me that if I’m good enough to play then I’ll play next year,” Hopper said on Robinson’s message to him. “I’m playing the same position as Vosean [Joseph], I’ll be doing everything that Vosean does.”
Robinson also explained to Hopper exactly what he needs to do in order to see the field as a freshman.
“I have to gain some weight,” he said on what he has to do before he gets to Florida. “Get speed up, gain some weight while keeping my speed up. That’s all I have to do to play.”
Hopper visited Florida twice this fall but he watched all of Florida’s games and he was impressed by the Gators defense.
“It was great,” Hopper said on Florida’s defense this year. “I can’t wait to be a part of it. I feel like I want to be a part of Coach [Todd] Grantham’s defense.”
Next up for Hopper is official visits as the linebacker commit debates whether to sign in December or not.
“I think I might sign early,” he said. “I might go to South Carolina but I’m visiting Florida on December 14th. Auburn maybe too.”
Auburn and South Carolina have been hard after Hopper since he committed but the linebacker says he remains solid to Florida.
“I’m 110 percent just like I was the day I committed,” Hopper said on his commitment to Florida.
INSIDERS TAKE: Hopper said that Auburn will conduct an in-home visit with him on Wednesday.
We need Hopper. The kid is fast and likes to hit.
