Hood planning to visit the Florida Gators after being offered

Last week the Florida Gators coaching staff offered several offensive linemen as they look to add to the 2022 recruiting class at the position.

Offensive lineman Jacob Hood (6-8, 340, Nashville, TN. Hillsboro) picked up an offer after he talked to a Gators assistant coach who watched him at a camp in Tennessee.

“I first talked to Coach [Wesley] McGriff,” Hood said on the coach from Florida who offered him last week. “He talked about how he liked my size and how I moved on the field, and he told the offensive line coach to call me.”

Hood has several big offers already but admits having another SEC offer is a big one to him and another opportunity for him.

“It means a lot,” he said on what the offer means to him. “Being able to have the opportunity to go to Florida if I choose to go there is great. It means a lot to have that opportunity from Florida.”

Offensive line coach John Hevesy talked with Hood after McGriff and explained to him what the Gators like about his game.

“I had a chance to talk to him [John] Hevesy for a few minutes,” he said. “He said he wanted to get me down there as soon as possible to meet me. He said he watched a lot of my film and that I really impressed him with how I move on the field.”

Hood has had a busy month of June already, but he says he’s going to get down to Gainesville for a visit.

“I plan on coming down either for a game during this season or for a camp at the end of July,” Hood said. “I want to meet everyone and see what all they have to offer.”

Last month Hood named a top five that didn’t include Florida but he says he’s still open but he does have a lot of schools vying for his last two official visits.

“I’ve already taken one to Georgia and Auburn and I have Miami coming up,” he said on official visits. “Arizona State, Florida State, Michigan, Mississippi State, Penn State and a few others are recruiting me hard and want me to visit.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Hood says he wants to make a decision in either late August or early September.
