Harmon surprised by Tuesday’s offer from the Florida Gators

On Tuesday the Florida Gators sent out a new offer in the 2021 class as they continue to build their recruiting board.

Defensive back Damond Harmon (6-1, 178, Highland Springs, VA. High) picked up an offer from the Gators after talking to one of the coaches.

“Coach [Torrian] Gray offered me,” Harmon said of the coach who offered him. “He pretty much said that I was being watched by them since my freshman year and they like my change of direction and physicality and wanted to offer me.”

Harmon hasn’t been talking to Florida a lot so Tuesday’s news caught him off guard.

“I was surprised definitely,” he said on his reaction to the offer. “The offer is definitely huge for me.”

Defensive backs coach Torrian Gray did explain to Harmon just what the Gators like about his game and why they wanted to offer.

“We haven’t talked about a position yet but we will soon,” Harmon said on the message from Gray. “He likes how I’m a ball hawk and likes how I come up and tackle and likes how I’m able to change direction.”

Harmon has yet to visit Gainesville but he does know several things about the Gators defense and tradition of success with defensive backs.

“I know that they play lights out defense and they have a winning attitude with a bunch of great coaches,” he said on what he knows about Florida. “It’s great that they’re DBU, a lot of guys come in and work and it shows. They have great coaches who get them prepared and ready for anything at the next level.”

Next up for Harmon will be visits as several schools are recruiting him hard and trying to get him on campus soon.

“The schools recruiting me the hardest would be Oklahoma, Penn State, USC, South Carolina, Georgia, Texas, Michigan State and Louisville,” Harmon said. “I’ll be visiting multiple schools in August and September if I’m able too but I’m not putting out who yet.”
