Gomes hired as director of sports nutrition for football

Billy Napier announced the hiring of Kelsee Gomes as his director of sports nutrition on Wednesday.

Gomes oversaw the nutrition department at North Carolina from 2015-21. She played a role with the Tar Heels’ baseball, men’s basketball, field hockey, football, gymnastics, women’s lacrosse and volleyball programs.

She was part of five national championship teams: lacrosse (2015), basketball (2017) and field hockey (2018-20).

The Charlotte native swam at UNC Wilmington from 2002-06. She worked at the traumatic brain injury and rehabilitation unit at Orlando Regional Medical Center from 2009-11.

Gomes worked at UCF as a nutritional consultant from 2011-12 and joined the UF staff as a coordinator of sports nutrition from 2012-15.

She is credentialed as a registered dietitian, a certified specialist in sports dietetics, a certified LEAP therapist specializing in food sensitivities and is also certified in adult weight management by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Gomes received the 2014 Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year Award from the Florida Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She is also active in the Collegiate and Professional Sports Dietitians Association.
