Gilliam breaks down his recent Florida Gators offer

The Florida Gators coaching staff has sent out a lot of offers to underclassmen lately but they’ve also mixed in several 2021 offers as well.

2021 defensive end Kelvin Gilliam (6-3, 250, Highland Springs, VA High) was one of those offers when he talked to the Gators coaching staff.

“Coach [David] Turner did,” Gilliam said on the coach from Florida who offered him. “He said he was very impressed with my film and was very impressed with the way I play the game of football and that I have excellent grades.”

Picking up an offer from the Gators was a big one to Gilliam who likes the way the Florida defensive line played last year.

“I was very excited, Florida always has a great defensive line,” he said on what the offer means to him. “They had a lot of sacks this year and were very disruptive on the defensive side of the ball.”

Defensive line coach David Turner explained to Gilliam how the Gators could use his game on the defensive line if he picks Florida for college.

“Just defensive line, someone that can play defensive end and defensive tackle for them,” Gilliam said on where Turner wants him to play. “He would move me around inside and outside. Playing the three and five technique.”

Gilliam has done his homework on Turner’s background with his position and one Gator impressed him in particular last year.

“He produces great defensive linemen, you could tell this year that other teams always struggled with that defensive line,” he said on his thoughts on Turner. “Especially Jonathan Greenard, he was a great outside linebacker for them.”

After picking up an offer from the Gators last week, Gilliam has started to study up on the program and he likes what he knows so far.

“I’m still learning about them but I know they’re an SEC great program,” Gilliam said on what he knows about Florida. “They have a great head coach in Coach Mullen. They have an energetic atmosphere down there.”

Next up for Gilliam will be a visit to Gainesville so he can several and do several things on campus.

“Yes, I do,” he said on if he plans to visit Florida. “Just seeing the place itself, connecting with the coaches more, asking any questions and seeing how I fit into the program.”

Three other schools have a head start on Florida as they’re recruiting Gilliam the hardest right now.

“Penn State, Oklahoma and South Carolina,” Gilliam said on schools recruiting him the hardest. “I want to have a top five or six in the summer and at least be committed before the season or during the seasonGi
