Georgia Tech commit Jaron Willis had an “eye opening” visit to Gainesville

Several prospects committed elsewhere visited the Florida Gators on Saturday for the Alabama to get a look at Dan Mullen and his team.

Georgia Tech linebacker commit Jaron Willis (6-2, 228, Leesburg, GA. Lee County) was on campus and liked the fight the Gators brought to the game against the Crimson Tide.

“The visit went well,” Willis said of his visit to Florida. “I liked everything about it, I just tried to experience everything about it while I was down here. It was a well fought game and Florida looked good out there.”

Willis has visited a lot of colleges for games, and he thinks the Swamp is one of the best environments he has been in.

“It was crazy,” he said of the atmosphere in the Swamp. “Out of all of the colleges I’ve been too, Florida is in the top 3 so far with being one of the loudest stadiums.”

While watching the game on Saturday, Willis liked the Gators’ defense, and he believes that will continue going forward.

“The defense stepped up,” Willis said. “They balled; they were just one more stop from winning but you can grow from that. I think next week they will come out against Tennessee looking for blood and get the win.”

Two of Florida’s assistant coaches have been the main contact for Willis so far this year and they’ve explained how he would fit into the defense.

“It’s kind of hard to say but I talk to Coach Crime [Wesley McGriff] and Coach C-Rob [Christian Robinson] the most,” he said. “They say when they go to their big nickel package that I will be in the nickel spot but when they’re in base, it will be linebacker, kind of like a hybrid guy that can move.”

Willis remains solid with his commitment to Georgia Tech but he says the Gators opened his eyes during the visit last weekend.

“I liked what I seen from Florida,” Willis said of his interest in Florida. “Florida is up there; they were eye opening.”

Next up for Willis will be a few more unofficial visits and then he hopes to set up an official visit to see the Gators.

“Not really visits, I’m thinking about setting up an official visit to Florida for some time in December,” he said on what’s next for him in his recruitment. “After that, I will probably be done with my recruitment. I will be going to more college games to see the atmosphere at the games.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Willis says Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, and Florida State are all recruiting him hard, and he may sign in December.
