On Saturday, the Florida Gators pulled out a big win over Central Florida in the Swamp and several of Florida’s top commitments were in town to watch the game.
Tight end commit Tae’shaun Gelsey (6-4, 215, Jacksonville, FL. Riverside) was in town and enjoyed the atmosphere inside the Swamp.
“The night game environment was crazy,” Gelsey said of his visit to Florida on Saturday. “That played a part of why I came too. The energy of the crowd just builds up our team and makes them play better.”
Gelsey was impressed by the Gators’ quarterback play on Saturday as both quarterbacks had big games.
“I feel like both of the quarterbacks played smart,” he said of DJ Lagway and Graham Mertz. “Just taking whatever the defense was giving them whether that was short passes or deep passes. They were driving down the field.”
After the game was over, Gelsey had the chance to go in the locker room and see the atmosphere in there and he was also able to talk to the coaching staff.
“I was able to talk to most of the coaches in the locker room,” Gelsey said. “Just building relationships with them. Everybody likes to win; I feel like this win is going to build up and they’re going to pull through the rest of the season.”
After watching the Gators win on Saturday, Gelsey believes things are heading in the right direction for the program.
“I just like the growth,” he said on what he likes about the team. “Each week they’re winning and just thinking about the win. Going hard in practice, I feel like they’re going to finish out the season better than anyone expected.”
Gelsey is having a big year on the field and he says a few coaches are still recruiting him and others are starting to build that relationship.
“People reach but not really because people get scared because it’s Florida,” Gelsey said on other coaches still recruiting him. “Some people try to keep in touch and just checking in with me. Tulane, FAU, Alabama is coming in and some of the Georgia coaches are talking to my coaches.”
Despite the recent contact from schools, Gelsey says his commitment is solid to Florida for a few reasons.
“I’m feeling very good, I have quarterback that’s going to be here once I get here,” he said of his commitment to Florida. “He’s already playing so he’s already getting the feel of the game.”
