Gators add another Ivie on defense

The Florida Gators finally received some good news  on the recruiting trail on Thursday as defensive tackle Andrew Ivie (6-3, 284, Dade City, FL Pasco) committed to the Gators.

Ivie’s name should sound familiar to Gator fans as his older brother Joey is a sophomore defensive tackle for the Florida Gators but the younger Ivie said he wanted to go to Florida well before Joey decided that.

“It has always been my dream to play for Florida,” Ivie said. “It is what I’ve been working towards the last three years even before my brother committed to play for Florida.”

Ivie, who has double digit scholarship offers from schools like Mississippi State, Ole Miss and South Florida, had a chance to impress Florida last week during his spring game when tight ends coach Derek Lewis visited Pasco High School.

With the addition of Ivie the Gators now sit with eight verbal commitments in the Class of 2015. Ivie joins Jalen Julius, Marcus Lewis and Deontai Williams on the defensive side of the ball.

Ivie is the first defensive lineman to commit to Florida this recruiting cycle but the Gators would still like to add another defensive tackle to the Class of 2015.

As a junior Ivie accounted for 62 tackles, 3 sacks and a safety for Pasco.

Gator Country will have a full interview with Ivie later this evening.
