In January the Florida Gators hosted hundreds of visitors on campus for visits for either junior days or shadow days as they turned their full attention to the 2026 class.
Florida State receiver commit Darryon Williams (5-11, 165, Tampa, FL. Plant) was on campus and he says the Gators are squarely in the mix for him after this visit.
“It was pretty amazing,” Williams said of his visit to Florida last month. “UF is definitely another contender in my recruitment cycle. They’re moving up.”
Williams has been to campus just once before but in January he was able to spend time with receivers coach Billy Gonzales and grow their relationship.
“It was my second time, I came last summer,” he said of visiting Florida. “I like Coach [Billy] Gonzales a lot. He’s a people person and he’s serious about his relationship with his players. I’m getting a better relationship with Coach Billy G.”
While on campus, Williams was able to follow one of his former teammates around for the day and learn about the difference between high school and college.
“I shadowed Waltez [Duke] Clark,” Williams said of what he did during the visit. “Duke is my former high school teammate, he says he loves it here. He says the workouts are not like you think, that you better take high school workouts serious. He says once you get here that it’s a whole different story.”
After a successful visit to Gainesville Williams says the Gators are now in line to get an official visit with the Gators’ rivals also in the mix.
“Of course,” Williams said on if he will take an official visit to Florida. “FSU, and hopefully Miami. I have a few other schools but I’m still deciding on those. No dates yes, by the spring I will finalize my list.”
The Florida State commit says the Gators made a move for him during the visit and he plans to return to Gainesville soon.
“I’m just going to say they moved up,” he said of Florida. “I’m just going to leave it at that. I will be back here in the spring for a visit for a practice. I want to compare both [UF and FSU].”
