Friday Night Light recap week 1: Florida Gators recruiting

It’s that time of the year again where the Friday Night Lights are bright and prospects all across the country are trying to shine on the field to impress college coaches and win a state championship ring before heading to college.

Like the past years Gator Country is going to do a preview every Thursday for all of the Florida Gators recruiting commits and on Monday we will do a full recap including stats and notes from the past weeks games.

This year we are going to also to name a player of the week from the commits games.

High School Recap

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Athlete Kadarius Toney- Toney was 13-25 passing for 181 yards and a touchdown. Toney also ran for 101 yards on nine carries and two more touchdowns.

2017 commits

Quarterback Jake Allen (6-3, 200, Fort Lauderdale, FL. St. Thomas Aquinas)

Result: St. Thomas Aquinas defeated Dillard 51-0 in a preseason game.

Game Stats: Allen was 9-12 passing for 97 yards and three touchdowns. Allen played only in the first half.

Notes: St. Thomas starts the season ranked in the top five in the country.

 

Defensive back Elijah Blades (6-2, 170, Pasadena, CA. John Muir)

Result: Muri doesn’t start the season until next week.

Notes: Muir starts the season ranked low in the state of California.

 

Tight end Zech Byrd (6-6, 236, Millbrook, AL. Stanhope Elmore)

Result: Stanhope Elmore lost to Greenville 13-7 on Friday Night in a preseason game.

Game Stats: Byrd had a touchdown in the lost.

Defensive end Zach Carter (6-4, 250, Tampa, FL. Hillsborough)

Result: Hillsborough defeated East Bay 41-0 in a preseason game.

Game Stats: Carter and his defense forced four turnovers and only allowed 127 yards in the win.

Notes: Hillsborough starts the regular season on Friday.

 

Defensive tackle Javier Edwards (6-3, 350, Brenham, TX. Blinn College

Result: Blinn starts the season this coming Saturday on the road.

Tight end Kemore Gamble (6-4, 216, Miami, FL. Southridge)

Result: Southridge defeated South Plantation 33-7 in a preseason game on Friday.

Game Stats: Gamble had a touchdown in the preseason game.

Receiver Daquon Green (6-1, 185, Tampa, FL. Tech)

Result: Tampa Bay Tech defeated Blake 35-0 in preseason action.

Game Stats: Green had a touchdown catch in the win over Blake.

Result: American Heritage lost to Booker T. 27-7 in a preseason game.

Andrew always knew he wanted to be involved with sports in some capacity. He began by coaching high school football for six years before deciding to pursue a career in journalism. While coaching, he was a part of two state semifinal teams in the state of Alabama. Given his past coaching experience, he figured covering recruiting would be a perfect fit.
