Friday Night Frenzy Recap week 1: Florida Gators recruiting

It’s that time of the year again when the Friday Night Lights are bright and prospects across the country are trying to shine on the field to impress college coaches and win a state championship ring before heading to college.

Like the past years, Gator Country is going to do a preview every Thursday for all of the Florida Gators recruiting commits and on Monday we will do a full recap including stats and notes from the past week’s games.

This year we are going to also to name a player of the week from the commits’ games.

 

Week 1 recap

Player of the week: DJ Lagway- Lagway was 19-21 passing for 422 yards with seven touchdowns. Lagway also added a rushing touchdown.

2024 commits

Receiver Tawaski Abrams (5-11, 175, Fort Myers, FL. Dunbar)

Result: Dunbar defeated Charlotte 34-0 on Friday night.

Game Stats: Abrams had several catches in the win.

Notes: Dunbar starts out with a 1-0 record on the year.

 

Defensive lineman Michai Boireau (6-5, 390, Fairburn, GA. Creekside)

Result: Creekside defeated St. Peter’s Prep 34-15 on Saturday night.

Game Stats: Boireau had two tackles in the win over St. Peter’s Prep.

Notes: Creekside moves to 2-0 on the year.

 

Linebacker Aaron Chiles (6-3, 220, Olney, MD. Our Lady Good Counsel)

Result: Our Lady of Good Counsel lost to St. Edward 28-7 on Sunday on the road.

Game Stats: 

Notes: Our Lady of Good Counsel starts the year 0-1.

 

Running back Kahnen Daniels (5-11, 190, West Point, MS. High)

Result: West Point fell to Louisville 35-13 on Friday night on the road.

Game Stats: Daniels had 17 carries for 68 yards in the loss.

Notes: Louisville’s defense held West Point’s offense down for most of the game.

 

Defensive back Josiah Davis (6-1, 185, Nashville, GA. Berrien)

Result: Berrien had their game canceled because of bad weather.

Game Stats: N/A

Notes: 

 

Defensive back Xavier Filsaime (6-1, 180, McKinney, TX. High)

Result: McKinney defeated Longview 23-21 on Thursday night.

Game Stats: Filsaime had six tackles, 3 pass deflections, and a caused fumble.

Notes: McKinney starts the year with a 1-0 record.

 

Defensive back Teddy Foster (6-2, 170, Sarasota, FL. Cardinal Mooney)

Result: Cardinal Mooney defeated Avon Park 54-0 on Friday night.

Game Stats: Foster had a 25-yard touchdown catch and also a pass break-up.

Notes: Cardinal Mooney is 1-0 on the year.

 

Linebacker Myles Graham (6-1, 212, Gainesville, FL. Buchholz)

Result: Buchholz defeated Columbia 41-13 to open the season.

Game Stats: Graham had a two-yard touchdown.

Notes: This game had to be finished on Saturday in Gainesville.

 

Receiver Jerrae Hawkins (5-9, 165, Bradenton, FL. IMG Academy)

Result: IMG defeated St. Joseph’s Prep 17-14 on Saturday.

Game Stats: Hawkins had a catch in the win.

Notes: IMG is now 2-0 on the year.

 

Linebacker Adarius Hayes (6-4, 210, Largo, FL. High)

Result: Largo defeated Pinellas Park 35-17 on Friday night.

Game Stats: Hayes had several tackles in the win on Friday.

Notes: Largo moves to 1-0 on the year.

 

Tight end Amir Jackson (6-4, 223, Portal, GA. High)

Result: Portal defeated Twiggs County 44-0 on Friday night.

Game Stats: Jackson had a 58-yard rushing touchdown and two catches for 44 yards receiving.

Notes: Portal is now 2-0 on the year.

 

Defensive lineman Kendall Jackson (6-4, 250, Gainesville, FL. Buchholz)

Result: Buchholz defeated Columbia 41-13 to open the season.

Game Stats: Jackson had 4 tackles and a sack in the win.

Notes: Buchholz is 1-0 on the year.

 

Defensive lineman Nasir Johnson (6-4, 300, Dublin, GA. High)

Result: Dublin had a bye week this week.

Notes: Dublin is 1-0 on the year.

 

Quarterback DJ Lagway (6-2, 225, Willis, TX. High)

Result: Willis defeated Rudder 52-21 on Friday night.

Game Stats: Lagway was 19-21 passing for 422 yards with seven touchdowns. Lagway also added a rushing touchdown.

Notes: Willis had a big first half and Lagway had 7 touchdowns in the half.

Result: John Ehret lost to Brother Martin 10-6 on Friday night.

Game Stats: Mack had a pbu in the loss.

Notes: John Ehret starts the year 1-1.

 

Offensive lineman Marcus Mascoll (6-4, 292, Snellville, GA. South Gwinnett)

Result: South Gwinnett defeated Meadowcreek 25-0 on Friday.

Offensive lineman Noel Portnjagin (6-5, 334, Germany, Unicorns Football)

Result: Unicorns football defeated Munich 36-13 on Friday night.

Result: Memorial defeated Brandon 28-21 on Friday.

Game Stats: Waller had five tackles and a sack in the win.

Notes: Picayune Memorial starts 1-0 on the year.

 

Offensive lineman Fletcher Westphal (6-8, 335, Leesburg, VA. Tuscarora)

Result: Tuscarora defeated Heritage 9-0 on Friday.

Result: Clinton defeated Wallace-Rose Hill 58-22 on Friday night.

Game Stats: Williams had 4 carries 114 yards and a touchdown. On defense, he had six tackles and two tackles for a loss.

Receiver Izaiah Williams (6-0, 172, Tampa, FL. Carrollwood Day)

Result: Carrollwood Day defeated Madison County 14-0 but the game was canceled in the second quarter because of weather.

Andrew always knew he wanted to be involved with sports in some capacity. He began by coaching high school football for six years before deciding to pursue a career in journalism. While coaching, he was a part of two state semifinal teams in the state of Alabama. Given his past coaching experience, he figured covering recruiting would be a perfect fit.
