Friday Night Frenzy recap week 1: Florida Gators recruiting

It’s that time of the year again when the Friday Night Lights are bright and prospects across the country are trying to shine on the field to impress college coaches and win a state championship ring before heading to college.

Like the past years, Gator Country is going to do a preview every Thursday for all of the Florida Gators recruiting commits and on Monday we will do a full recap including stats and notes from the past week’s games.

This year we are going to also to name a player of the week from the commits’ games.

This week was the start of the season for some prospects while others are still waiting to start the season.

 

Week 1 recap:

Player of the week: Treyaun Webb, Webb had 18 carries for 191 yards rushing and three touchdowns.

2023 commits

Safety Jordan Castell (6-2, 195, Winter Garden, FL. West Orange)

Result: West Orange defeated Oak Ridge 43-12 on Friday night.

Game Stats: Castell had one tackle and an interception in the win on Friday.

Notes: 

 

Defensive lineman Kelby Collins (6-5, 280, Gardendale, AL. High)

Result: Gardendale lost to Calhoun 31-30 on Friday night.

Game Stats: Collins had eight tackles, two tackles for a loss and a sack in the loss.

Notes: Gardendale dropped to 1-1 on the year.

 

 Defensive back Sharif Denson (5-11, 170, Jacksonville, FL. Bartram Trail)

Result: Bartram Trail defeated Ponte Vedra 13-7 on Friday night.

Game Stats: Denson had three tackles and two pass break-ups in the win.

Notes: 

 

Athlete Aaron Gates (6-0, 180, Sharspsburg, GA. Trinity Christian)

Result: Trinity Christian lost to Fellowship Christian 23-19 on Friday.

Game Stats: Gates had four catches for 48 yards and a touchdown on offense and accounted for five tackles on defense.

Notes: Trinity Christian fell to 0-2 on the year.

 

Offensive lineman Knijeah Harris (6-3, 335, Bradenton, FL. IMG)

Result: IMG lost to Central 20-14 on Friday night.

Game Stats: N/A

Notes: 

 

Defensive lineman Gavin Hill (6-3, 255, Gainesville, FL. Buchholz)

Result: Buchholz defeated Columbia 31-14 on Thursday night.

Game Stats: Hill had five tackles and three tackles for a loss in the win. Hill also added a sack and forced a fumble.

Notes: The weather was a big part of this game as the field was wet and sloppy.

 

Defensive back Ja’Keem Jackson (6-1, 180, Kissimmee, FL. Osceola)

Result: Osceola defeated Treasure Coast 14-5 on Friday night.

Game Stats: Jackson had two catches for six yards on offense and added four tackles on defense.

Defensive lineman Kamran James (6-6, 265, Orlando, FL. Olympia)

Result: Olympia lost to Wekiva 36-21 on Friday night.

Game Stats: James had a 4-yard touchdown catch in the loss.

Receiver Andy Jean (6-1, 180, Miami, FL. Northwestern)

Result: Northwestern defeated Venice 32-26 on Friday night.

Offensive lineman Bryce Lovett (6-5, 330, Rockledge, FL. High)

Result: Rockledge defeated Gulliver Prep 37-0 on Friday.

Receiver Aidan Mizell (6-2, 180, Orlando, FL. Boone)

Result: Boone defeated Timber Creek 20-12 on Friday night.

Game Stats: 

Notes: Mizell had to leave the game early after tweaking his knee but he should be able to play on Friday.

 

Defensive lineman Isaiah Nixon (6-4, 215, St. Petersburg, FL. Lakewood)

Result: Lakewood defeated Northeast 28-0 on Friday night.

Game Stats: Nixon had four tackles and a tackle for a loss in the win.

Defensive lineman Will Norman (6-5, 290, Baltimore, MD. St. Frances)

Result: St. Frances defeated East St. Louis 20-13 on Saturday.

Receiver Tyree Patterson (6-2, 175, Eustis, FL. High)

Result: Eustis lost to Harmony 33-20 on Friday night.

Game Stats: Patterson had four catches for 100 yards and a touchdown in the loss.

Linebacker Jaden Robinson (6-1, 222, Lake City, FL. Columbia)

Result: Columbia lost to Buchholz 31-14 on Thursday.

Game Stats: Robinson had five tackles in the loss.

Defensive lineman TJ Searcy (6-5, 250, Thomaston, GA. Upson-Lee)

Result: Upson-Lee lost to Lamar County 21-20 on Friday.

Game Stats: N/A

Notes: Upson-Lee falls to 0-2 on the year.

 

Quarterback Marcus Stokes (62, 190, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. Nease)

Result: Nease lost to Andrew Jackson 1-1 on Friday night.

Game Stats: Stokes was 5-20 passing for 76 yards and an interception in the loss. Stokes also had 29 yards on the ground and a touchdown.

Notes: It was a nasty night for football with a wet field.

Result: Trinity Christian defeated Ed White 48-40 on Friday night.

Game Stats: Webb had 18 carries for 191 yards rushing and three touchdowns.

Receiver Creed Whittemore (5-11, 175, Gainesville, FL. Buchholz)

Result: Buchholz defeated Columbia 31-14 on Thursday night.

Game Stats: Whittemore was 10-14 passing for 126 yards and a touchdown. Whittemore also added 71 yards on the ground and two more touchdowns.

Notes: 

Receiver Eugene Wilson III (5-11, 165, Tampa, FL. Gaither)

Result: Gaither defeated Steinbrenner 28-21 on Friday night.

Game Stats: Wilson had one pass for 40 yards and added six catches for 118 yards and two touchdowns in the win. On defense Wilson had three tackles and an interception.

Result: Woodward Academy lost to McCallie 17-13 on Friday.

Andrew always knew he wanted to be involved with sports in some capacity. He began by coaching high school football for six years before deciding to pursue a career in journalism. While coaching, he was a part of two state semifinal teams in the state of Alabama. Given his past coaching experience, he figured covering recruiting would be a perfect fit.
