Friday Night Frenzy recap for week 2: Florida Gators recruiting

It’s that time of the year again where the Friday Night Lights are bright and prospects all across the country are trying to shine on the field to impress college coaches and win a state championship ring before heading to college.

Like the past years Gator Country is going to do a preview every Thursday for all of the Florida Gators recruiting commits and on Monday we will do a full recap including stats and notes from the past weeks games.

This year we are going to also to name a player of the week from the commits games.

This week was full of preseason games for most of these prospects while the rest of the prospects will start up their season soon.

High School Recap

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jalon Jones: Jones had four total touchdowns in the win.

 Linebacker Diwun Black (6-3, 216, Kissimmee, FL. Osceola)

Result: N/A

Game Stats: N/A

Notes: N/A

 

Linebacker Mohamoud Diabate (6-3, 215, Auburn, AL. High)

Result: Auburn defeated Opelika 22-15 on Friday night.

Game Stats: Diabate had five tackles and also had a strip sack to end the game.

Notes: Auburn scored a last minute touchdown to win the game.

 

Linebacker Tyron Hopper (6-2, 205, Roswell, GA. High)

Result: Roswell defeated Centennial 40-21 on Friday night.

Game Stats: Hopper had 6 tackles and a forced fumble.

Notes: Roswell forced several turnovers in the game.

 

Defensive tackle Jaelin Humphries (6-3, 303, Lawrenceville, GA. Mountain View)

Result: Mountain View defeated Dacula 21-14 on Friday night.

Game Stats: Humphries is still recovering from an injury.

Notes: After an opening game loss, Mountain View is on a two game winning streak.

 

Quarterback Jalon Jones (6-3, 205, Richmond, VA. Henrico)

Result: Henrico defeated Hermitage 68-0 on Friday night.

Game Stats: Jones was 12-17 for 211 yards and two touchdowns. Jones also had two carries for 102 yards and two more touchdowns.

Notes: Jones only played the first half of the game due to the score.

 

Cornerback Chester Kimbrough (5-10, 167, New Orleans, LA. Warren Easton)

Result: Easton defeated Jesuit 27-14 on Thursday night.

Notes: Warren Easton opened the season with a win.

 

Receiver Dionte Marks (5-11, 178, Deland, FL. High)

Result: Deland defeated Seminole 20-17 on Friday.

Game Stats: Marks had a 32-yard touchdown catch in the win.

Notes: Deland improved to 2-0 on the year.

 

 Linebacker Jesiah Pierre (6-2, 220, Mount Dora, FL. Christian Academy)

 

Result: Mount Dora Christian Academy lost to Orlando Christian Prep 42-13 on Friday night.

Notes: The defense struggled for the second straight week.

 

Offensive lineman Riley Simonds (6-3, 324, Buford, GA. High)

Result: Buford lost to Deerfield Beach 19-14 on Friday night.

Notes: Buford suffered its first loss of the year on Friday night.

 

Athlete Ja’Markis Weston (6-3, 205, Clewiston, FL. High)

Result: Clewiston lost to Monsignor Pace 30-10 on Friday night.

Result: Carol City had a bye week.

Andrew always knew he wanted to be involved with sports in some capacity. He began by coaching high school football for six years before deciding to pursue a career in journalism. While coaching, he was a part of two state semifinal teams in the state of Alabama. Given his past coaching experience, he figured covering recruiting would be a perfect fit.
